The Superman Movie That Never Got Made, Thank Goodness

So if you’re into movies, you’ve probably heard about this aborted project: a Tim Burton–directed “Superman Dies” starring Nic Cage as the Man of Steel. The script had among its writers Kevin Smith, of Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Comic Book Men fame.

So imagine: the director who gave us the Michael Keaton Batmans and the actor with the strangest resume in Hollywood bringing to the big screen the comic book story arc wherein Superman/Clark Kent dies and then is brought back to life via some nonsense or other.

A documentary has been made about the project. Check out this excerpt:

Frankly, this is one of those almost-films whose “legend” is probably more interesting than the the final product would have been.

BTW: If you’ve never heard Kevin Smith tell the story about his meeting with Warner Bros. and then producer Jon Peters about this project, you’re in for a riotous treat. Beware: the language is very, very Kevin Smith–esque, which is to say filthy.
